Archiving Policy
The Asia Pacific Journal of Surgical Advances (APJSA) is dedicated to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of all the research it publishes. Our archiving policy is designed to safeguard the scholarly record and ensure that the content remains available to readers, researchers, and practitioners for the foreseeable future, regardless of any potential disruptions in the journal's operations.
Digital Preservation
APJSA employs robust digital archiving practices to ensure that all published articles are securely stored and preserved. The journal's content is archived in multiple, geographically distributed repositories to prevent data loss and to ensure that articles remain accessible even in the event of technical failures or other unforeseen circumstances.
Archiving Partners and Repositories
APJSA collaborates with several established digital archiving services and repositories to ensure the preservation of its content:
- Portico: APJSA content is archived in Portico, a leading digital preservation service that ensures long-term access to scholarly literature. Portico’s system provides a reliable means of preserving the journal’s content against potential risks, including technological obsolescence and physical damage.
- Institutional Repositories: Authors are encouraged to deposit their published articles in their institutional repositories. This practice not only enhances the visibility of the research but also ensures its preservation across multiple platforms.
- National and International Libraries: APJSA also deposits its content in national and international library repositories that specialize in the long-term preservation of digital academic content.
Self-Archiving
Authors publishing in APJSA are permitted and encouraged to self-archive the final published version of their articles. This can be done on personal websites, institutional repositories, or other non-commercial platforms, in line with the journal’s open access policy and the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) license.
Accessibility
APJSA is committed to ensuring that all archived content remains freely accessible to the public. Our open access policy guarantees that archived articles can be accessed without charge, promoting the widespread dissemination of knowledge. In the event that the journal ceases publication or encounters any disruption, the archived content will remain accessible through the designated repositories.
Metadata and Indexing
To further enhance discoverability and access, APJSA ensures that all published articles are indexed in major academic databases and search engines. Each article is assigned a unique DOI (Digital Object Identifier), which ensures persistent access to its digital copy. The metadata for each article is also stored and updated regularly, ensuring that researchers can easily find and cite the work.
Contingency Planning
In the event of any disruption to APJSA’s publishing operations, the journal has contingency plans in place to ensure continued access to its content. This includes collaboration with archiving services that can make the content available through alternative access points, ensuring that the scholarly record is preserved and remains accessible.
Compliance with Standards
APJSA’s archiving policy complies with the standards and best practices recommended by organizations such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC). We are committed to maintaining the highest standards in digital preservation to protect the integrity and accessibility of the research we publish. By implementing a comprehensive archiving policy, APJSA ensures the long-term preservation and accessibility of its content, thereby contributing to the enduring availability of valuable scientific knowledge and the ongoing advancement of surgical science.
